Women in Agriculture and Business of SA Inc.

Women in Agriculture and Business of SA Inc. (WAB) is a South Australian state-wide support and communication network for rural women, especially those interested or involved in primary industries. WAB has a network of branches across the Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mallee, Riverland and South East, as well as an Online branch. Branches usually meet monthly to work on community projects, discuss wider issues or attend guest presentations and workshops.

Friendship is an important part of WAB meetings.

WAB was formed at Riverton in 1917 to meet the needs of women who were isolated and who were working with their families to establish farms and homes in rural districts. From those early days WAB has had close links with the Agricultural Bureau and various government agencies.

WAB is also affiliated with Associated Country Women of the World which has links with the United Nations and with the National Council of Women South Australia.

State Conference and Regional Gatherings

A State Conference is held every two years and is hosted in turn by WAB Regions. Regional Conferences are also held.

Theme

Every year WAB chooses a theme.  Branches are encouraged to promote the theme through speakers, activities and events. The Theme for 2025/2026 is Good Health with the Power of Plants.

Country of Study

Each year WAB chooses a country of study. Members will learn about the history, culture and the environment of these countries. In 2025/2026 the WAB Country of Study is Mauritius.

Project

WAB chooses an organisation from within Australia or overseas to support annually.  Branches learn about the organisation and raises funds to donate to the project. The 2025/2026 project is Rural Aid Australia.

Branches use the chosen theme, country of study and project in planning guest speakers and activities for the year.
